Pandoh Dam Located in the Mandi District of Himachal Pradesh between Manali and Shimla highway, Pandoh Dam is an ideal stopover point. 10 km from Manali, the water channelized by the dam is used to generate power at the Dehar Power House. With the use of long systems and tunnels, the dam diverts the water of Beas towards the Southwest. The man-made lake created by the dam water is a famous tourist attraction, attracting many tourists to spend some alone time with the mother nature. Location 1: Vashishth Kund Located in a small village called Vashisht, the Vashisht Kund is situated around 6 kms away from Manali. One of the oldest temples in Manali, it depicts intricate wooden carvings and traditional Indian-style architecture. The temple is named after sage Vashisht, one of the seven main sages of the Hindu religion. According to legends, sage Vashisht meditated here and vowed to start a new life after learning that his children were murdered by Vishwamitra. The temple is also famous for its hot water springs which are believed to have medicinal properties. Location 2: Hadimba Temple Surrounded by a scenic cedar forest, the 15th century Hidimba Temple is a tribute to Bhima's family, including his son Ghatotkacha. Amidst the Cedar Forest, the temple has a distinctive four-tiered pagoda roof through a large doorway and a stone with an imprint of the feet of the Goddess carved on it. Also known as Dhungri Temple, it is 15 minutes away from the Manali Mall Road. Location 3: Tibetan Monastery A beautiful attraction, the Tibetan monastery represents the rich culture and history of the Tibetan people who live in Manali. Out of the various colourful Tibetan monasteries in and around Manali, one of the most important and popular ones is Himalayan Nyingmapa Gompa. Located a short walk away from the Mall Road, the monastery offers an oasis of serenity and peace. You can hear monks chanting, and watch the local Tibetans go about their prayers. Please remember to be quiet and respectful within the premises. Around the monastery you will also find a large number of shops and kiosks selling colourful and unique Tibetan handicrafts.
