Location 1: Pratapgarh Fort Located at a distance of 24 km from Mahabaleshwar, the Pratapgad Fort was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1656. It consists of two forts - an upper fort built on the top of the hill and a lower fort resting towards the south. Shivaji defeated Afzal Khan, General of Bijapur in this very place. To mark this historic event, a statue of an equestrian Shivaji was built at the top of the fort in the year 1959. Afzal Khan's Tomb and Bhavani Temple are other attractions situated near the fort. It is believed that Shivaji was blessed with a shining sword at this temple. The fort also boasts of a beautiful view of the Konkan Coas   Location 2: Elephant's Head Point Located beyond the Lodwick Point, the Elephant's Head Point forming the extreme end of the mountain range, is one of the popular vantage points in Mahabaleshwar. The cliff resembling an elephant's head provides a fabulous view of the Sahyadri range to the tourists. Apart from this, one can also witness a beautiful sunrise or sunset from here. An excellent vacation spot for photographers, nirvana seekers, and nature lovers, the place manages to attract travelers all-round the year.
