When we talk about pretty good excursions, Deer Park is an ideal spot for engulfing oneself in the wild and nature. The park is spread over an area of 16.5 hectares and was inaugurated in 1985. It is home to a variety of animals and birds, including deer, peacocks, and monkeys.
The history of Deer Park in Cuttack dates back to the time of the Mahabharata. According to mythology, the park was the place where Arjuna, one of the Pandavas, killed a deer while hunting. The deer's blood had stained the ground, giving the place its name. The Deer Park was also the place where the Buddhist emperor Ashoka had his famous rock edicts installed. These edicts, inscribed in three different scripts, were carved on a series of boulders and pillars. The park is also known for its association with the poet Rabindranath Tagore. It was here that Tagore penned his famous song, "Amar Shonar Bangla" (My Golden Bengal).
Well, with such a rich history, who wouldn’t want to visit this place?
