Ranganathaswami Temple is a Hindu temple located in Srirangam, Tiruchirapalli district, Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, and is one of the 108 temples of Vishnu. The temple is also known as the Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangam Temple, and Thiruvarangam Temple.
The temple is situated on an islet on the Kaveri River, and is one of the largest temples in India. The temple is spread over an area of 156 acres (630,000 m2), and is said to be the largest temple in the world. The temple has a seven-storey gopuram, and a 16-storey vimana.
The temple has a total of 21 gopurams, and the tallest gopuram is the Rajagopuram, which is 52 metres (171 ft) high.
The temple was built by the Chola king Kulottunga Chola I in the 11th century, and is one of the most important temples in the Chola dynasty.
The temple is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is one of the most visited temples in India. The temple has a rich history, and is said to be the place where the sage Valmiki wrote the Ramayana.
