MAHARASTRA MAKES MANDATIORY TO CARRY RT-PCR TEST REPORTS IN THESE TWO DISTRICTS

Two Konkan region districts in the state of Maharashtra now require travellers to produce a negative RT-PCR test report on arrival. The latest developments come after the Centre issued an advisory for imposition of curbs during the festive season. The negative RT-PCR test report is however not required for those who are fully vaccinated, and travellers under the age of 18 years.
The two Konkan region districts are Singhudurg and Ratnagiri, both of which have limited health care infrastructure, and also a high positivity rate at present.
The festive season sees a large number of business transactions, travels, and more. With the ease of travel curbs, people from Mumbai, Thane and Pune are expected to visit their hometowns in the Konkan region for the upcoming Ganpati festival. Ganpati festival is celebrated on a large scale in Maharashtra.
An official said, "There is no way to ban travel and so these are some of the steps that the districts are taking to reduce the spread of the virus."
Travellers should be aware that teams are positioned to check documents from travellers. Those who are not vaccinated need to show RT PCR certificates, while those who are fully-vaccinated, must show their vaccination certificates. According to the official, the test report should have been issued 72 hours before travel.
The move this year has been made since last year saw a surge in COVID cases in the month of September after the Ganpati festival in August. This year, Ganesh Chathurti begins on September 10, and will go on until September 21.
