Indian Railways has decided to restart services of 50 special trains which were stopped because of COVID-19 pandemic. These special trains will recommence operations from June 21. The demand of passengers has increased in recent times. The number of trains has been increased gradually. From 800 express trains which were in operation daily in the first week of June, passenger services have gone up to 983 express trains as on Friday, which is about 56% of the pre-Covid level. From the 1st of the June to 18th of June they approve to operate 660 additional express trains has been given to the zonal railways.
Some of the prominent special trains include New Delhi-Dehradun Shatabdi Express ,Kalka Shatabdi Express, Chandigarh New Delhi Shatabdi Express, Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Jammu Tawi Duronto, Kalka-Shimla Express, Lucknow-Prayagraj Sangam Express and Chhapra-Lucknow Junction Express.
